Nous largely looks at your ability to think in a structured way, draw out key findings from data (qualitative and quantitative), and communicate insights in a clear and compelling way for clients (usually through PowerPoint or Word).

I’ve travelled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for training and to rural parts of Australia to work on ESP equipment. I’ve met people from different parts of the world and learnt about different cultures I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise.

I am directly accessing parts of the network that impact the customer, results of the changes I make can be immediately seen and felt.

Don’t feel like you’re locked into your choices early on in your career – take it from someone who had a career change 10 years into his first career.

Build your soft skills with an emphasis on being able to communicate your ideas across. These are really valuable to have in any industry.

Having the opportunity to work at Sunrise Dam has developed my survey and mining knowledge to a point that would’ve been unattainable to achieve through study alone and has given me invaluable experience that will stick for the rest of my career.
