Who We Are

A proudly Australian company, Santos is a leading supplier of natural gas, a fuel for the future providing cleaner energy to improve the lives of people in Australia and Asia.

For 65 years, Santos has been working in partnership with local communities, providing jobs and safely and sustainably developing Australia's natural gas resources.

Santos' strategy is centred on five core long-life natural gas and LNG assets (Northern Australia, Queensland and New South Wales, Western Australia, the Cooper Basin, and Papua New Guinea) with the business positioned for growth across the portfolio.

With origins in the Cooper Basin, Santos has one of the largest exploration and production acreages in Australia. And the gas we produce here is the perfect partner for renewable energy, generating 50% less CO2 emissions than coal energy – making it the best way to keep us going and growing.

Australian owned and operated, we work with local communities, governments and business partners to safely and sustainably develop our country’s natural gas resources. Our commitment to protecting the land is evident in the care we’ve always taken extracting natural gas, leaving the environment in the same, if not better condition than we found it. After all, Australia’s our home too.

And while we already supply gas to every state in Australia, by 2025 we plan to be this country’s leading supplier of natural gas, making it an affordable, secure and dependable source of energy for all.

Our People

Our people are smart, resilient, professional and passionate about the industry. We value safety, efficiency and innovation, and continuously strive to deliver outstanding outcomes for all stakeholders. We take personal accountability for delivering on what we promise.

Santos knows the value of investing in our best and brightest new resources – the future of our workforce and future leaders within our business. That’s why we invest in our graduates as permanent employees and provide unique opportunities for accelerated career development.

Santos graduates are guided by a clear purpose, an ambitious vision and a core set of values. These are the fundamental driving forces behind our brand, business, behaviours and decisions. Santos’ values underpin its culture and social license to operate. The values reflect how Santos employees work, treat each other, and how they interact with the people around them. The values that Santos employees strive to uphold in all their interactions include the ability to work as one team, act with integrity, be accountable, pursue exception results and build a better future.

Social contribution

A sustainable future depends on Australian natural gas, and Santos is proud to play an important role in securing Australia’s economic and environmental future for generations to come.

We are committed to be part of the solution to a low-carbon future by limiting greenhouse gas emissions while providing access to reliable and affordable energy to domestic and global markets.

At Santos, we are dedicated to being the safest oil and gas operator in Australia and preventing harm to people and the environment. To do this we responsibly manage our environmental impact and work in partnership with the communities in which we operate. We are always focused on the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and reliably managing our business across all of our operations.

Santos is built on a strong foundation of social responsibility. Embedded in our approach to working with local communities is a commitment to establish and maintain enduring and mutually beneficial relationships. A key part of this is employing locally. Santos employees live and work in many of the communities where we operate and are actively involved in our community programs and activities.

Our Programs

Vacation Program

Santos offers 12 weeks of paid vacation employment between November and February each year providing opportunities for students to enhance their personal development through hands-on experience, defined and challenging project work, structured performance feedback, and the delivery of a presentation on their project.

Graduate Program

Our 3-year Graduate Program facilitates rotations aligned to discipline streams, all industry related and future focussed. It is supported by a lifecycle induction, mentoring program, on-the-job experience, plus technical and personal development training.

The program provides a strong technical foundation while offering exposure to innovative projects like solar energy conversion, advanced analytics and drone mapping.

Our graduates rotate through various teams gaining office and field experience, with opportunities available across the country from our modern capital city offices to the central Australian outback to rigs offshore Western Australia. Santos Graduates are permanent employees and are our future leaders.

The recruitment process

Santos recognizes the strategic value in recruiting new talent at graduate and student level and provides excellent opportunities for growth and development.

Vacation Program Applications

Applications open each year in April/May and applicants should be in their penultimate year of their university degree.

Graduate Program Applications

Our Vacation Program is the main pathway to the Santos Graduate Program, however, we know the value of investing in new talent, so additional positions may become available through our expressions of interest online application. We are keen to hear from applicants who are striving for high-quality results, are eager to work in a dynamic and challenging environment and can be flexible in their work location.

We target graduates who demonstrate our values, resonate with our purpose and strive for our vision. Applicants will need to demonstrate effective communication skills and strong problem solving, analytical, time management and organisational abilities. Applicants should be in the final year of their Honours degree.

Applications and selection

We require all applications to be registered online. Registrations will be received when applications are open – see our website for dates. • The large graduate community.
  • Opportunities to rotate within the company, work interstate, work onsite.
  • Supportive environment, field roster opportunities.
  • Field opportunities are made available to new graduates to gain practical experience. A lot of trust is placed in graduates there are many learning opportunities in short spaces of time.
  • The best thing about working for Santos is that they look after their employees. They understand the benefits of keeping their employees healthy and happy to ensure productivity and efficiency within the workplace.
  • Rotation plan may not work out to be the best to learn, particularly in the current oil price environment. Flexibility to make changes to a rotation appear minimal.
  • Lack of security with exposure to the oil price.
  • CEO level management is very progressive and amazing, sometimes on the way through middle management the plans coming from above don't work because of the old school way some middle management sees things.
  • External pressure on market conditions and the internal challenges in response to the external environment.
  • Some of the time tasks are monotonous - but there are always monotonous tasks with any role.
