The Ergon Energy Network I Energex Story

Ergon Network and Energex, part of the Energy Queensland Group, is one of the largest electricity organisations in Australia. Based in Queensland, we connect and supply electricity to 2.3 million customers. Everything we do is driven by our purpose to safely deliver secure, affordable and sustainable energy solutions to our communities and customers.

If you’re completing a university degree and looking to build a career in Engineering, Data Science or ICT/Digital, our Graduate Program offers a unique opportunity. You'll be positioned as a graduate to make your mark helping to guide the energy industry's transition from coal to renewables.

Opportunities to start your graduate journey with us are available in various locations across Queensland. You can start your Graduate journey with us in one of the below Locations:

  • Cairns
  • Townsville
  • Rockhampton
  • Toowoomba
  • Brisbane

Recruitment Process

Graduate opportunities normally open in March/April for commencement in either February or July the following year.

There are several steps in our graduate recruitment process and below provides a high-level overview:

  • Step 1: Submit your online application
  • Step 2: Conduct a short video interview
  • Step 3: Complete an online behavioural assessment
  • Step 4: Attend a panel interview
  • Step 5: Reference checks
  • Step 6: Offer of employment.

Successful applicants can demonstrate a balance of great academic performance, work experience and participation and contribution to extra circular activities in their community.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Enjoy a competitive salary package starting from $91,422 per annum on a 9 Day fortnight, with ongoing opportunities for pay progression over the 3-year program and upon successful completion. You will also be supported with direct access to a wide range of career pathways and opportunities when you complete the Graduate Program.

Our Graduate program

Throughout our three-year rotational program, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Choose your own six-monthly rotational placements throughout the organisation giving you exposure to an exciting range of business areas, roles, specialisations and locations across Queensland
  • Work with experts on new and emerging technologies to challenge your critical thinking abilities and accelerate your learning
  • Experience one-on-one leadership and support with a personal mentor to guide your development and success. You'll also forge meaningful relationships with leaders and experts across the business
  • Benefit from professional development in technical and business, exposing you to best-practice, emerging, and future ideas from the industry and beyond

  • I get to work on very interesting problems which keeps me stimulated and I never get bored. Also the work is very satisfying and It feels good to know that the work I do helps people. The business deals with many different aspects of engineering so I get to work on many different technologies and there are opportunities to secondments and work for a different department. People are very supportive of my learning and helping me understand concepts. Focus on doing further courses to get better a certain skills and these are paid for. The salary is great

  • As a graduate, being able to explore the organisation through the rotation scheme has given me access to a large range of opportunities and allowed me to establish a broad professional network across the business which is by far the best benefit of the program.
  • There are a lot of benefits for graduates on the graduate program at Ergon Energy Network/Energex. All employees have been very kind and there is a big push for learning and professional development.
  • Parking options at the Brisbane office are super limited and the nearest train station is quite a walk away.
  • Higher expectations and responsibilities
  • Some teams are more traditional/manual with their work practices and sometimes find it difficult to embrace change.
  • The digital side of business is a bit behind compared to others, although this could be seen as a good opportunity to help the move forward and adopt new technologies, processes, and platforms.
